A Core Charge is the deposit you pay at the time of purchase for the used component being replaced. That deposit is refunded to you when the old component is returned to us. The intent of the Core Charge, or exchange parts in general, is to promote the recycling of reusable components.
Core Charges are often associated with items that can be recycled, such as batteries and alternators, and are subject to the manufacturers core criteria.
How do they work?
- You buy a recyclable product, $100 (component) + $50 (core) = $150
- After installing the new product you return your dirty core component to us
- Your old component is inspected by our warehouse to ensure it is recyclable
- Once approved, a $50 credit is issued back to you
To return a core, please see our How do I return a core article.
*Please note that Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature. As such, the core charge and taxes may vary.
